Why are there so few Masters out there? This is a question which I cannot fully answer. However, one theory that I can offer is that being dominant is something which society tries to stamp out. This is especially true in the western culture during the last 30 years.

The equal rights movement in the late 60s and 70s changed the interaction before men and women. No longer was it presumed that the male was the dominant species. Women desired equality in all areas with men. Over time, the behavior of each party changed to reflect the newfound beliefs and morays of the culture.

Men who exhibit the dominant behavior are now termed neandertals by the vast percentage of society. Naturally there are areas where domination is acceptable such as sports and perhaps business. However, overall, it is not viewed as something desirable. The equality means that sensitivity is important. Taking control in a relationship is considered to be smothering and inconsiderate. Guys who do this gain a reputation as one to be avoided.

Yet, this is the exact trait that is so desired in the M/s world. Women who want to be slaves crave a strong man who is willing to take control (the same goes for male slave seeking female mistresses). Suddenly, their wishes are in direct opposition to what the general thought pattern is of society. Men were taught to be gentlemen. The idea of whipping a woman in punishment (or worse, fun) is something that would get our mothers blood pressure rising. Many could not look their mothers in the eye after engaging in behavior such as this.

This mindset is more common than we think. It goes against the entire concept of taking a slave and giving her what she needs. Her craving for someone to take control is left unfulfilled since there are so few who will approach this lifestyle in the appropriate manner. It is extremely difficult for a slave to get with a Master since they are so rare. It seems the numbers are stacked against her. The ratio of slaves to Masters is overwhelming. It is an observation that I made over the years.

The only way I can see changing this pattern is to make people aware that this is not a lifestyle based upon abuse. Those who enter this do so willingly. It is a consensual relationship based upon fulfilling a deep-seeded need within oneself. The desire to serve is extremely strong in a slave. It is something that can only be satisfied by completely giving of herself to another. This is not degrading to a slave;rather liberating to her. It is her path to freedom. People need to understand this concept. Hopefully, then they will be more willing to approach it.

The information contained herein is not based upon any scientific analysis. Rather, it is predicated upon observation over a long number of years. There were some studies/surveys done which do back up the findings. However, I am more interested in pointing out the trend as opposed to the particular numbers.

Recently, a friend of mine asked me why it was so hard to find a Master. She is available and longing, yet seems to continually run across people who do not fit the criteria. This got me thinking about what it is that people run across, especially on the Internet.

I remember hearing of an annual festival that is held locally here where people in the M/s lifestyle attend. I was told that the number of slaves outnumbering the Masters had to be 20 to 1. I find this to be a believable ratio. This led me to do some basic online research. In touring a few different M/s based sites, it would seem that the ratio is the opposite there. It appeared that there are twice the number of Masters vs. slaves. Of course, this seemed to be odd.

This got me looking at the areas where people post information about the lifestyle. It is here that the number of Masters seemed to diminish. There were lots of slaves seeking information yet few Masters providing it. It is here where the ratios started to fall back into line. This can lead me to only conclude that most of what one meets on the Internet are really different then they make themselves out to be.

The bottom line is there are few true Masters out there. This does not mean that it is impossible to find one; it is not. However, it is best to realize the percentages are overwhelming in terms of the number of slaves. Be prepared to spend some time looking for a qualified Master. Having the expectation that you will get One within a few weeks is most likely unrealistic. This will save you a lot of heartache, and ass ache, down the road.
